Hearst to enter launch a large format e-Reader

It hasnt long been 2009, yet the e-book industry is really making some serious progress towards truly making it the Year of the eBook.

Fortune has announced that Hearst Corporation, which publishes highly popular magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Marie Claire as well as many daily and weekly newspapers developing it’s own large-format e-Reader device.

[Hearst] has developed a wireless e-reader with a large-format screen suited to the reading and advertising requirements of newspapers and magazines.

Which then goes on to say…

The device and underlying technology, which other publishers will be allowed to adapt, is likely to debut this year.

Interestingly, it seems like the strategy here for Hearst is to provide a widely available platform which makes it easier for newspaper and magazine publishers to adopt.

What I find most exciting about this is that with Hearst entering the e-Reader format, the natural laws of business and competition means the industry is moving forward in driving prices down choices up. Excellent.

The question is… how practical would this large format reader be?
