Is writing on a smartphone a smart choice?
My usual day phone is a Nokia e61 which similar to Blackberrys and the Palm Treos, has the qwerty keypad layout you would usually expect to see on a smartphone, which whilst great and responsive for whipping up a quick email or text message together - seems a little too cumbersome and awkward as a tool to write a novel on.
Whilst the iPhone or perhaps the Sidekick would be my preferred choice of smartphone, author Peter V.Brett opted for an HP iPAQ to write the majority of his book The Warded Man.
Two links are available after what I thought was quite a humorous little quote from the interview on laptopmag:
Sometimes, if it wasn’t too crowded [the train], I’d wrap my arm around the pole so that I could hold on with my elbow and still write.
But for the most part I developed my seat hunting skills. There are certain stops on the train where lots of people tend to get on or off. If you pay close attention you can see someone gathering their bags, and you can grab a seat before a new load of people come on. I developed those skills so that I could grab a seat, tune out, and just work.Peter V.Brett
